MBABANE – Eswatini professional golfer Nobuhle Dlamini is playing catch-up in the KPMG Women’s Irish Open.

This follows a not so good start in the tournament, which started yesterday. Dlamini scored one-over-par in the 72-hole stroke play tournament. She was in position 80 after day one of the tournament. Dlamini is part of the over 100 golfers competing in Ireland. The tournament is played under the Ladies European Tour (LET) banner. Leading in day one was United Kingdom’s Annabel Dimmock who scored six-under-par. The tournament played over three days, meaning it would end on Sunday with tomorrow, being the cut-off for the final round.

After a 10-year hiatus, the LET returned to Ireland this week, with Dromoland Castle hosting the KPMG Women’s Irish Open. The last Irish Open was held in 2021, with winning Solheim Cup captain Catriona Matthew triumphing with a one-shot victory over Suzann Pettersen. Dlamini will have to improve her performance after failing to make the cut in the Lacoste Ladies Open de France played last weekend. She did not make the next round after failing to make the cut.

The Lobamba-born player has been busy on the course in the past months after making her comeback form an injury. She played in the entire past five tournaments under the LET in Europe, where she is currently based. Dlamini is facing world top player as the champion from 2012 will be back this year and is one of the many LET winners participating in the 72-hole stroke play competition with a prize fund of €400 000 (about E7 million).
