MBABANE – He needs at least E30 000 sponsorship to realise his dream.

History is in the making for the kingdom of Eswatini that has produced an international bodybuilding athlete, who would for the first time bear the country’s flag on his shoulders in the fight for gold against bodybuilders from around the globe. Eswatini’s bodybuilder Arnaldo Barbosa is appealing for support in terms of sponsorship in order to fulfill his dream of competing in the Physical Culture Association (PCA) World Championships set for November 20, 2022 in the United Kingdom.

qualified

Barbosa qualified for the grand international bodybuilding stage after scooping gold in the PCA African Championships held in Cape Town a fortnight ago, where he competed in the Under-70kg men’s bodybuilding line-up, donning 62kg of muscle mass after weigh-in. Bodybuilding is an individual sport and most athletes rely on sponsors for support due to its high financial demands in terms of diet, training and preparations for competitions. With only nine weeks remaining before the competition, the African champion has appealed to businesses and individual sponsors, who wished to contribute towards this historic endeavor as he chases the ultimate world title. “I have been working for this opportunity for decades now and qualifying for the world championships was only the beginning. I am reaching out to the nation and appealing for financial support to cater for flight tickets, accommodation and my visa. I need at least E30 000 I will be humbly grateful to anyone who is willing to assist me in my journey,” Barbosa said.

The qualification meant zero rest or recovery time for the athlete, who returned to the gym for a high cardio training programme and maintained a high protein diet. “I prepare my own meals as per the advice of the various coaches I work with because the diet is very expensive. This is a competitive sport and I can reveal my training programme in details but I do a lot of cardio right now,” he said. Anyone who is willing to sponsor the athlete can contact him on his mobile phone on 7860 8684/ 7955 4534 or liaise with the Times of Eswatini via email at sports@times.co.sz.
