MBABANE – They are a rare breed in local football.

Following reports that Mbabane Swallows’ seasoned and experienced captain Tony ‘TT’ Tsabedze will retire at the end of the upcoming season; Swallows feel it will be difficult to find a player who will step into his big shoes. The capital city giants early this year recalled ‘TT‘s assistant Wonder ‘Samba Jive’ Nhleko, who had hung up his soccer boots at the beginning of last season.

Noteworthy is that the ‘Birds’ have also hinted in one of the preseason games played at Mhlambanyatsi Sports Ground last month that they were bringing in young blood in the team so they could learn from their senior players. Swallows General Manager Sandile ‘Beyond 2000’ Zwane, when reached for comment on the reports linking ‘TT’ with retirement, said they would not be able to fill up any gap that would be left by the two players. He said the pair was always exemplary to young players both in the team and nationally.  He also mentioned that the news of the captain quitting playing football was a shock to him and doubted if they were truthful.

“Anyways, we can’t force him to play if he feels like he has to stop playing. What I can say is that Tony is exceptionally good together with Wonder in or off the field. They are good in all aspects: leadership, respect, behaviour and so on. No player had lasted like them. To us they are everything; they are like directors,” Zwane said. It was reported yesterday by this publication based on an interview from South Africa’s FarPost that the 37-year-old was officially pulling the plug on his illustrious career at the end of the 2022/23 campaign.
