MBABANE – It was all smiles for Mbabane Highlanders as they collected over E300 000 in their CAF Confederation Cup match against Royal AM.

The first leg match of the preliminaries that ended goalless was watched by over 6 000 football supporters who almost filled the 7 500-seater venue, Somhlolo National Stadium. Each fan paid E50 entry fee. Highlanders Public Relations Officer (PRO) Mandla Madonsela confirmed yesterday that over 6 000 tickets were sold and that meant over E300 000 was collected.

earnings

The net earnings for Mbabane Highlanders will be known after the actual figures for the collections have been released. Madonsela noted that it was not only Mbabane Highlanders’ supporters who watched the game, but the nation at large. He said they were very thankful for the support and they hoped the same would happen when they played the second leg fixture on Friday at Moses Mabhida Stadium, South Africa. “It was a massive support from all those who came to the stadium. We needed the 12th man; that is the supporters in the game.

motivated

“I believe the players were motivated by the crowd, despite not winning. The numbers at the stadium showed how much the nation loved football,” he said. Madonsela pleaded with the fans to travel with the team when going to Durban, South Africa, for the second leg match of the preliminaries. “Now it is time we fill Moses Mabhida Stadium and show them that we have a huge following. If the supporters can come in their numbers in the away game at Moses Mabhida, the team will be motivated and we will go all out to deliver positive results,” he said.
