MBABANE – Yet another preseason international practice match was on the cards for Mbabane Highlanders on Tuesday afternoon.

Destined for their first in nine years inter-club competition, the TOTALEnergies Confederation Cup in nine years, Highlanders, also known as Inkunz’emnyama, had been spending time in South Africa this preseason where they have played and lost some big practice matches against Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates.

Their last match was last Sunday in Rustenburg while Gallants were next on schedule. “We had to travel yesterday (on Tuesday) to play another practice match with Marumo Gallants, but after some considerations, the technical bench advised against attending the game. They felt we should work on the Bible Cup preparations here as it’s only this weekend,” Highlanders’ Public Relations Officer (PRO) Mandla Madonsela said.

Prepare

He said the technical bench led by Selaotse Mosala wanted to make their assessments and prepare well for the Bible Society Cup slated for Mavuso Sports Centre on Saturday. Highlanders play against Denver Sundowns in the second semifinal while it will be the tournament’s treble champions Manzini Wanderers against hub rivals Moneni Pirates at 9am opening the show on its fourth edition. It makes a return two years later since COVID-19 halted it. Madonsela said he could not name the players they were assessing at the moment but they were mainly from the regions.
