MBABANE – He is headed for South Africa’s largest and most prestigious bodybuilding stage.

Eswatini’s face of bodybuilding, Arnaldo ‘Mcemane’ Barbosa booked a one way ticket to the Physical Culture Association (PCA) Championships after winning the provincial competition held in South Africa- Cape Town on Saturday. The SA PCA Championships are penned for September 10, 2022 in Cape Town at Durbanville.  The Under-70kg men’s bodybuilding line-up champion was awarded an invitation certificate for the grander stage that would qualify him for the World championships to be held in the United Kingdom in November.

“Congratulations. You are hereby invited to compete at the PCA South Africa Championships held in Cape Town on the 10th of September, 2022. It’s South Africa’s largest and most prestigious event,” reads the invitation in part. After a grueling four weeks of preparations leading to the competition, marked by strict diets and training, Barbosa thanked the Ezulwini Fitness Zone Gym management, clients, fellow bodybuilders and sponsor, Alex Famonou, Katija De Sousa and Mile Harrison for their much needed support.

Feeling at his weakest after the competition, Barbosa said; “Commitment pushed me this far. The challenge in preparing for the competition was keeping up with the diet in winter. When the body fat drops, the cover of a blanket is not effective enough and it’s hard to wake up for training. Thank you to everyone who motivated me and offered support during this critical time.”Barbosa advised local bodybuilders to substitute their dreams with actions through exercising self-discipline and determination with the guide of passion in what they do.

“I’m looking forward to the next challenge which will take me to the world stage.  I have my eye on the gold medal, since only the top three will qualify and I’m working for number one. To my fellow bodybuilders in Eswatini; stop dreaming and work on your actions. Put passion into your work and the results will be rewarding,” he said. He further appealed for financial support to contribute towards travelling and accommodation for his next competition.
