MBABANE – Capital city giants Mbabane Highlanders are already on their preparations for the upcoming TOTALEnergies CAF Confederation Cup 2022/23 games.

With Eswatini having no stadium fit enough to host official international matches particularly under the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Inkunz’emnyama, who are under the leadership of South African businessman and politician Chief Ally Kgomongwe, look set to host at Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit or at Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Phokeng near Rustenburg in South Africa.

Both stadiums survived the CAF ban that saw most African countries, including Eswatini, learning in the hardest of ways that they needed a new stadium altogether. “We already have letters in hand but with Royal Bafokeng, we’re awaiting the quotation as they promised us a good discount if we use their facility, particularly because it’s me. We’ve secured Mbombela Stadium and the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) must be aware by now,” Kgomongwe excitedly confirmed. He said they already knew the booking fees involved at Mbombela Stadium and would now have to compare with Royal Bafokeng’s quotation to decide where they go.

“We’ll also be mindful of our supporters and all football supporters in Eswatini as this is not just about us but Eswatini football. Just this weekend, we’re having our end-of-season party in Ezulwini, but we’ll slaughter enough cattle for all to eat and enjoy as we’re opening it to all football people and not just Highlanders,” Kgomongwe said. He appealed to all football supporters in the country to ready themselves for yet another weekend of fun with the Highlanders family at CODEC, at the same venue they had hosted a similar event towards the end of the first round early this year. Several teams’ officials and fans graced the party and enjoyed the proceedings. Meanwhile, Kgomongwe also owns Vaal Professionals in SA ABC Motsepe League, where they did not do well as they finished second bottom in the Gauteng stream. However, Kgomongwe said Vaal were not going down as long as he was their leader. He did not explain what he meant but said when the season began; Vaal would not be one of the relegated teams.
