MANZINI – Umbufto Eswatini Defence Force (UEDF) are back to winning ways after a poor start in the Swaziland Building Society (SBS) Netball League.

The army side had lost their opening game to Correctional three weeks back. This past Saturday, through the help of their coach Xolile Lukhele, who was seen motivating the players on the sidelines, they annexed maximum points, winning 42-25 to the equally hard fighting Phoenix male team. The game was played at Zakhele Netball Court and was witnessed by over 50 netball lovers. Among the fans was Eswatini National Netball Association (ENA) Secretary General Bongiwe Gamedze.

tightly-contested

The tightly-contested game started on a high tempo with the home side, showing great energy and coordination when attacking. In the first quarter, Lukhele-led charges were leading 10-6 with Sizolwethu Magagula doing what he has being hired to do, scoring. In the second quarter, the hosts were unstoppable as they stretched their lead to 16-13 with the visitors showing some signs of catching up. It was Nkabinde Shabalala who brought hope to the away side with his darting runs and scoring beautiful goals. The third quarter saw the away side trailing by six goals and they looked like they were close to a comeback. However, the hosts proved too good for the red and white and side. In the end, UEDF became victorious with an impressive 42-25 scoreline.
