‘Y’ELLO’ LEAGUE GRAND CLOSING JUNE 12

MBABANE – After this weekend, only the MTN Premier League top four teams will be left to play in the grand closing matches to decide the championship next Sunday.

Due to the national team, Sihlangu, being away in Togo for its African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023 Qualifier match on Friday, leaders Royal Leopard and second-placed Mbabane Highlanders who are the only team behind them with a chance to win the title, third-placed Mbabane Swallows and fourth-placed Young Buffaloes will not see any action this weekend, while the rest of the teams finish their league season.

The rules say the last three games of the season should be played at the same time for competing teams at the top and bottom but in this instance, that applies to the rest of the clubs that would still play according to this rule with one fixture involving already relegated Malanti Chiefs playing earlier. The games will be wrapped up this Sunday then the big title deciding clashes next Sunday.

Venues

The grand closing fixture will see Swallows host Highlanders at Mavuso Sports Centre while Young Buffaloes will visit leaders Leopard at KaLanga Technical Centre. Kick-off in both grand closing venues is 2:30pm. This will be after the second AFCON 2023 group match for Eswatini who also must host Burkina Faso on June 7, while Togo will be away against Cape Verde. Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) Chief Operations Officer (COO) Pat Vilakati released full fixture yesterday so fans can start planning now especially for the grand closing matches. Highlanders need to beat Swallows and then pray Leopard lose to Buffaloes to be champions this season. If Leopard play a draw with Buffaloes and Highlanders still win, Leopard will be champions on better head-to-head against the capital city side. Also, Swallows can finish on second with a win against Highlanders while Buffaloes can also finish on third.
