MBABANE – Some of the last games of the 2021/22 MTN Premier League will be played this coming weekend.

Only the top four of Royal Leopard, Mbabane Highlanders, Mbabane Swallows and Young Buffaloes, who have most of their players at Sihlangu, will be excused. The Premier League of Eswatini’s (PLE) Chief Operations Officer (COO), Pat Vilakati, speaking on national radio, the Eswatini Broadcasting and Information Services (EBIS 1) Sports Show yesterday, said the remaining games would be played this coming weekend. “The games involving the top four clubs are the only ones that will not be played as they have players with Sihlangu,” Vilakati said.

He said the games would be played after the national team Sihlangu was done playing the first two 2023 TOTALEnergies Qualifiers against Togo and Burkina Faso. The Dominic Kunene-led side returned to full-time camp this past Sunday after the Week 29 matches were played. The players were released last week Friday to join their respective teams after the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) reached common ground with PLE over the players. Log Leaders Royal Leopard and fourth-placed Young Buffaloes have seven players a piece in the national team, while second-placed Mbabane Highlanders have four. Third-placed Mbabane Swallows have two.

It is worth noting that the security forces teams will be playing against each other and the Mbabane giants have a date too. This is the fixture that will not take place, which is the title decider. Meanwhile, Sihlangu according to EFA Marketing and Communications Officer Muzi Radebe was supposed to leave the country for Togo yesterday or today. “We are still working on the logistics pertaining Sihlangu and once everything is done the media will be notified. For now I can’t say anything about the issue of the final squad,” Radebe said. Sihlangu Coach Kunene called a 26-member squad which includes the two international players of the country in Cape Town All Stars Justice Figuareido and Sagrada Esperanca winger Bonginkosi ‘Manyovu’ Dlamini. Kunene said the final squad would be released after their last training session. “We have to conclude the training sessions and assess the players for injuries before releasing the final team,” he said.
