MBABANE – It is going down to the wire.

With three games to spare, the MTN Premier League title race is still wide open. It was a weekend of draws as half of the games ended in stalemates. Below are some of the memorable moments from week 27.

Free ride for Birds fans
Mbabane Swallows President Arch Bishop Bheki Lukhele extended his support and provided free transport for the team’s fans to Nhlangano. It was a good move by the president and it showed his love for the team. For any director, they should look after the welfare of the team’s supporters to win the hearts of the whole team. The bishop did just that. It is no secret that fans are the ‘12th player’, as they make a team perform better.

Stressful day for Caleb
Emotions got the better of Vovovo FC Coach Caleb Ngwenya as they went down 1-2 against Moneni Pirates. Ngwenya was busy kicking the air as his players missed some scoring chances. His day was made worse by the red card received by international defender Aristo Tamuza towards the end of the game.

Fans locked out of stadium
There was drama just before kick-off between Mbabane Swallows and Young Buffaloes, as fans were locked out of the stadiums. This was because some fans wanted to force free entry. They were forced out and the gate was locked and they had to use a small gate where they showed their tickets, and order was restored as fans entered the stadium smoothly.

‘Spoko’ sees ‘red’
Malanti Chiefs assistant coach Sibusiso ‘Spoko’ Dlamini was shown a red card by referee Thokozani Dlamini for unsporting conduct 30 minutes into his side’s match against Rangers at King Sobhuza II Memorial Stadium on Sunday. The former Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs forward has a number of yellow cards too.

It rains money for Pirates
Moneni Pirates’ hard earned 2-1 win over Vovovo on Sunday in the MTN Premier League saw them taking home close to E1 000. This was money donated by the supporters after the win. It was presented to the team Captain Menzi ‘Magawugawu’ Simelane. It is now a norm for Pirates players to receive some cash from the supporters after each game, and this goes a long way in motivating the players.

‘Penalty miss could cost ‘Bull’ title’
Some of Mbabane Highlanders supporters believe that the penalty that was missed by striker Sabelo ‘Sikhali’ Ndzinisa in the 1-all draw against leaders Royal Leopard could cost them the title. The trusted forward, who is now second on the league scorers’ chart after Young Buffaloes Sandile ‘Saviola’ Gamedze missed from the spot kick in the 50th minute.  ‘Saviola’ has 23 goals while ‘Sikhali’ is on 21.
