MHLUME – Mother Nature had the final say to spoil the interesting MTN Premier League title race.

Both Mbabane Highlanders and Mbabane Swallows’ games were abandoned due to bad weather, while it was business as usual for leaders Royal Leopard. The police ensemble  are now three points clear of closest challengers Highlanders after throwing Tambuti FC deeper into the relegation quagmire at Mhlume yesterday.  Leopard and Highlanders meet into two days’ time in potential title deciders involving third and fourth-placed Young Buffaloes and Swallows.

relegating

After yesterday’s game, Leopard have surpassed the 60-point tally  on top of relegating the Lubombo-based ensemble to the basement of the charts, thanks to goals from brace hero Lungelo Tsabedze and the dependable Thabiso Mokenkoane. Lungelo Tsabedze broke the deadlock for ‘Ingwemabalala’ when the game was just 13 minutes old after connecting a back pass from Mokenkoane and caught goalkeeper Felizwe Vilakati off guard.  Mokenkoane also registered one goal in his name to make up for two clear wasted chances. The South Africa-born import fired a low shot within scoring range to make it 2-0 in the 45th minute of the opening half.

Tambuti’s striker Roy Mamba was trapped between a rock a hard surface as he was carefully guarded by the resilient Thami Zulu and Mzwandile Mabelesa, barring him from getting within goal shooting range. Tambuti’s woes worsened when Tsabedze completed a brace born from a remarkable assist by Junior Magagula five minutes before the hour mark.  Magagula’s pass from a counter attack fell on Tsabedze’s inner right foot and the on-form twin curled it wide into the far post to stretch their lead to 3-0. Had it not been for wasted chances, particularly by Muzi ‘Mzoro’ Dlamini, Leopard’s goal count at full-time could have stretched beyond seven. Leopard are scheduled to clash against league title contenders  Mbabane Highlanders on Wednesday at KaLanga Technical Centreat 2:45pm, while Tambuti host Denver Sundown at Mayaluka Stadium at 12:30pm.
