MBABANE PARKRUN TURNS 5

MBABANE – On May 6, 2017,  at  least 130 runners, most of them visitors from South Africa, gathered at on overcast and cool Mbabane parkrun for the inaugural event.

On the day, the first three runners in Sifiso Simelane of Swazi Slojos who clocked 22:43 minutes, Swazi Slojos runner Darron Raw clocked 23:10 minutes, while individual runner Mzwandile Mbingo completed the top three on 23:24 minutes.

The top lady finisher on the day was Tracy Rankin from Rand Athletics Club who clocked 23:51 minutes and was fourth overall from the 130 parkrunners who took part on the day. Bruce Fordyce (Mr Parkrun SA) finished in 15th position with a time of 28:02 minutes and his wife Gill Fordyce ranked 32nd with a time of 33:50 minutes. Two participants from the first event were able to make it to the fifth birthday and these were Nonhlanhla Makhanya and Dairin Faherty who attended the celebrations. Coming to the 164th Parkrun which took place last Saturday at the Mbabane Club; there were 47 parkrunners who participated in the event. This was made up of 12 ladies, 29 men, and sux unregistered participants (unknown).

There were visitors and first timers and these included Sinenhlanhla Mnisi to his first parkrun ever. Sinenhlanhla is a junior male and he finished his first parkrun in the 10th position.
Another visitor was Mlondi Mkhonta from Nhlangano Running Club who was also a first timer. The first runners in the men category included Mduduzi Dlamini  who clocked 18:07 minutes while in the ladies  category was Kirstie Van Rensburg who reached the winning point of 5km race after 34:46 minutes  and 26th  overall.

Mbabane Parkrun organiser Neil Robinson thanked the volunteers who put on an awesome event to celebrate their big day. The volunteers who made the event a success were Devin Bauermeister; Erik Bauermeister; Khalid Sebbie Du Pont; Gohe Gebremariam; Bonginkosi Madonsela, Nonhlanhla Makhanya; Xolani Ngcamphalala; Kirsten Robinson; Ntsikelelo; Bridget Van Dort and Frankie Williams. “Thank you to our team for giving up your time to assist in making our parkrun the great event that it is. Special thank you to Bridget Van Dort for baking the birthday cake,” Robinson said. He then urged those who wished to be part of the group of dedicated volunteers to drop them a message on Facebook or  to speak to one of the volunteers at an event.
