NHLANGANO – Mbabane Highlanders had to fight back to beat stubborn Milling Hot Spurs 3-1 here yesterday to keep their MTN Premier League title hopes alive.

‘The Bull’ are still right behind defending champions Royal Leopard who beat Manzini Sea Birds 1-0 yesterday. Highlanders are second on the log with an inferior goal difference to Leopard, as they both have 58 points after yesterday’s victories. Milling remain in the relegation quagmire, as they are fifth from the bottom with 25 points. They lost the first leg 0-2 on January 12, 2022. Highlanders’ goals came in the second-half after going to the break trailing 0-1. They were given a scare by Hot Spurs, who are battling for survival in the elite league as they went to the break trailing 1-0.

First

Milling scored on the stroke of the half-time through Bongumenzi Dlamini, who struck from outside the 18 area past goalkeeper Khanyakwezwe Shabalala, who was obstructed by his defence. This was Milling’s first ever goal against Highlanders in the MTN Premier League after five meetings. The black and white outfit’s Coach, Selaotse Mosala, made two changes at the start of the second-half. He rested the duo of Tshepo Chaine and Banele Ndzabandzaba, for Lindokuhle Fakudze and Tony Machacha. Those changes brought life to Highlanders as they started to dominate the ball in the middle of the park.

Highlanders finished off the game in 12 minutes after scoring three goals. It came as no surprise when defender Peter Dlamini blasted in the ball six yards after a scramble for the ball inside the 18 area in the hour mark. Seven minutes later, Tony ‘Ben 10’ Machacha finish off a cross from Kenneth Moloto, beating the goalkeeper Mlondi Dlamini from six yards. Despite the lead, Highlanders did not rest but continued to pile pressure and it paid off when Sabelo ‘Sikhali’ Ndzinisa coolly finished off a cross from Philani Mkhontfo from the left flank on 71 minutes, to score his 21st goal of the season. Highlanders could have added more goals but ‘Sikhali’, Machacha and Lindokuhle Fakudze were all guilty for missing numerous chances.
