MBABANE – MTN Premier League rookies Rangers have parted ways with their Head Coach, Mthunzi Ginindza, after a string of poor results.

Ginindza joined the Shiselweni-based side at the start of the current season from Manzini Wanderers, where he was assisting Nyanga ‘Crooks’ Hlophe. The veteran gaffer was also shown the exit door at the hub giants due to a string of poor results and had found home at National First Division side Mbabane Citizens. The former Manzini Wanderers assistant coach once had a good run with the rookies as at one point, they were at the summit of the table, as they won the first two games in the elite league. They beat Moneni Pirates 1-0 in round one. They then beat Tambuti 2-1 in week two of the league.

The towering mentor produced one of the results that shocked the local football fraternity as he led his young battalions to a 2-1 win over Mbabane Swallows in an MTN Premier League game that was played at King Sobhuza II Memorial Stadium on New Year’s Day. Ginindza confirmed that he was shown the exit door at Rangers this past Monday en route to the team’s morning training session at King Sobhuza II Memorial Stadium.

“Angisekho kuRangers (I’m no longer at) Rangers my brother; as coaches we are hired to be fired. This is happening around the globe not only here in Eswatini,” Ginindza said.
He said his contract with Rangers was due to expire in August this year and was yet to be given details on how they would compensate him. “The chief executive officer promised me that he would facilitate a meeting to shed light on how the issue of the contract would be sorted,” he said.

Considering

He also felt that he did exceptionally well for Rangers with the little resources he had, considering that he was able to collect 20 points and he was ahead of old teams in the league.
“I don’t actually understand what they are talking about when they say my contract was terminated due to poor performance looking at the points that we collected. I have no hard feelings though; life goes on,” he said. Ginindza said he had hoped to cheat the relegation axe with his young boys. “I would like to thank the team directors, management committee, players and supporters for entrusting me to lead the club in their maiden season in top flight football,” he said. He finally wished the team the best of luck as they tried to avoid being chopped to the second-tier of local football.

Decision

Meanwhile, Rangers Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Thembinkosi Hlandze said no final decision had been taken about Ginindza as their main focus was on today’s game against Tinyosi.
“We are currently trying to find ways on how to handle the coach’s issue; I will give you a full-detailed report after tomorrow’s game,” Hlandze said. The CEO said he was hoping that the coach stayed with the team, but this would be discussed at the meeting after the game today. The coach, on the other hand, has joined a growing list of coaches who have been through the revolving door this season. They include the renowned duo of Nyanga ‘Crooks’ Hlophe and Ernest Mavuso, who were formerly with Wanderers and Mbabane Highlanders, respectively.
