MBABANE – Coach Gcina Dlamini has quit Moneni Pirates with eight games remaining in the 2022 MTN Premier League season.

According to reliable sources close to the club, the coach felt it was no good staying while the team was not getting any positive results under his guidance. Dlamini joined the Sea Robbers at the start of the season with one mandate in mind;  to finish in the top eight and possibly compete if things were in his favour. However, with 22 games played, things have not gone as he would have loved and he has decided to step down. The coach left the Buccaneers of Moneni after losing two back-to-back games. His last straw was when he lost 2-0 to Mbabane Highlanders at the Mavuso Sports Centre this past Tuesday. He has also lost to Rangers with the same scoreline, which saw his side being beaten by defending champions, Royal Leopard 3-0, and had Milling also stealing maximum points from his team after winning 1-0.

He last won a match when he beat Tambuti 3-1 on March 30, 2022. In total, he has lost 11 games, drawn six games and only won five out 22 games. They are perched fifth place from the bottom with 21 points. Coach Gcina Dlamini confirmed that he had stepped down.

Luck

“Luck was not on my side. The team was playing well but failed to get results. I have decided to step down as Moneni Pirates coach,” Dlamini said. He asked to be called later to clarify more details. When called later he could not be reached. Meanwhile, Pirates Manager, Twoman Masuku did not want to comment, but referred all questions to the club President Osborne Nzima. The latter said he was busy and asked to be contacted later. He was called later but he could not be reached.
