MBABANE – Eswatini has been handed a tough draw in the 2023 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) group stages.

The road to Ivory Coast will begin at the end of next month with the second matches to be played in June 14, 2022. The Dominic Kunene-led side has been pitted in Group B with Burkina Faso, Togo and Cape Verde.  They will face Burkina Faso for the first time, while they once played against the other two nations, Cape Verde and Togo.

Eswatini played Cape Verde during the World Cup Qualifiers in 2003, they played to a 1-1 draw here at home courtesy of a Siza ‘King Pele’ Dlamini’s 65th minute strike on October 12. The Islanders beat Sihlangu 3-0 in the second leg on November 16, 2003. Eswatini was coached by Germany Coach Werner Bickelhaupt on both occasions.
