10 MEDALS FOR SWIMMERS IN ZAMBIA

MBABANE – It was a sensational performance by swimmers in the CANA Zone IV Swimming championships in Lusaka, Zambia.

The team of nine swimmers brought home 10 medals in total, with three being gold, four silver and three bronze medals. The five-day swimming championships ended on Monday with the team expected home today. The team of swimmers were Simanga Dlamini (Captain), Robyn Young (Captain), Cameron Jele (Sea Wolves Club), Hayley Hoy (Swim Lab), Luca Fraser (Swim Lab), Pedro De Sousa (Swim Lab), Raya Young (Swim Lab), Siwakhile Dlamini (Swim Lab) and Tiano Fraser (Swim Lab). The swimmers were competing against 12 other countries being Angola, Botswana, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Eswatini Swimming Association (ESA) President Herman Jele said they were proud of the team as it displayed a great performance.

“I would like to congratulate each athlete on the excellent performance and subsequent results. It is indicative of committed and highly capable swimmers. We collected medals from bronze to gold, coupled with numerous personal best times set by the athletes. Jele said acknowledging the leadership on the ground - team manager and team coach. Mark Hoare was the coach with Michelle Hoy being team manager while Welcome Nhlabatsi was the International Technical Officer together with Meluleki ‘Sluga’ Simelane. “We will continue to work closely with our clubs to ensure that the swimmers continue to grow and improve their performances,” he concluded.

Coach Mark Hoare praised the ESA for taking a directive decision in giving the athletes the opportunity to participate in this year’s CANA ZONE IV Swimming Championships. “I am proud and honoured to have served as the coach for this exceptional team alongside the team Manager Michelle Hoy. We have produced phenomenal results, personal best times and made history medalling at this high profile competition. The swimmers swam their hearts out in each and every race. This is only just a start of many,” Hoare said.
