TEMPERS FLARE ON RAINY WEEKEND

MBABANE – The MTN Premier League staged its 20th games of the season where we saw the number of goals scored surpass last week’s by five.

The elite league teams scored a collective 22 goals compared to the 17 scored last week. We also saw Manzini Wanderers winning their first game in 10 matches to ease the relegation pressure.

Tempers flare as Wanderers beat Malanti
Manzini Wanderers’ celebration of their hard-earned 2-1 victory over Malanti Chiefs was a thorn in the flesh for this one Malanti Chiefs fan who caused a scene when she attacked a Wanderers fan. She charged towards the unsuspecting Weslian fan while hurling unpalatable words and had to be dragged away as she threatened to pounce on the other fan. This unsporting behaviour is unacceptable according the MTN League Rules and Regulations 2021/2022.

Wanderers’ Sihle suffers a seizure
Manzini Wanderers and Malanti Chiefs game had to be stopped for about two minutes when Sihle Mkhonta experienced a seizure attack during the game with only 10 minutes remaining before full-time. It was yet another unfortunate coincidence in the absence of paramedics in this infamous Killarney Sports Ground. Fortunately, Wanderers technical bench rushed into the field, assessed and helped stabilise the player who then returned into the field and continued with the game.

Rangers’ Ginindza coach while in tunnels
The Sports Desk could not help but capture a picture of Rangers Coach Mthunzi Ginindza while he was coaching under a tunnel or a shelter. This was because of the torrential rains which forced almost everyone to run for shelter. However, all the other coaches seemed to have braved the rain and decided to use umbrellas. However, one question which bogs the mind is why are there no technical bench shelter, at King Sobhuza II Memorial Stadium? This stadium should surely have a proper technical bench area.

Leopard’s nine goals in four days
Surely playing in the CAF Confederation Cup is bearing the fruits for league defending champions as they are scoring goals like nobody’s business. On Wednesday, they scored six goals against Vovovo in their 6-2 victory and they added three more this weekend. During the first round they scored four goals combined on these two opponents. They played to a 2-all draw against Vovovo and beat Rangers 2-0 in the reverse fixture.

Vovovo’s 1-0 much needed win
It was a huge relief for coach Caleb Ngwenya after his side returned to their winning ways. They needed this win more than Manzini Sea Birds following their 6-2 humiliation by Royal Leopard midweek. They had also lost 1-0 against Young Buffaloes on April 3. The last time they recorded a win was on March 5, where they defeated Tinyosi 3-0.

Supporters locked out at KaLanga
The KaLanga Technical Centre continues to be a headache to football fans as they had to watch the game between Mbabane Highlanders and Denver Sundowns under incessant rain. The fans could not stand the rain anymore and they decided to force their way into the main arena only to find the gate locked. The fans tore the fence to gain entry. The Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) should consider not to fixture teams with a huge following at this venue.

boy ball’s ‘two-in-one’ soccer boot
A Mbabane Highlanders ball boy was wearing an old Puma soccer boot which had an Adidas patch on one side. In fact he was wearing a ‘pumadidas’ soccer boot. This is creativity at its element best. Bravo to the young man!

Highlanders’ fan crazy dance move
Mbabane Highlanders supporters were treated to some crazy dance moves by one of their own at the main stand after the referee blew his final whistle. This was after the Black Bull gored Denver Sundowns 2-0 at KaLanga Technical Centre on Sunday. His moves could win him an award in the SABC 1 Jika majika show.

KaLanga Technical Centre a death trap
The Eswatini Football Association (EFA) should quickly find a solution about the venue as the cliff is now sliding due to the rains. This mud slide could result in injuries of supporters as they stand by the edge of the cliff while watching football games. The road leading to the sports ground also needs attention as well as the surface around the stadium, which makes it difficult for people to walk around the muddy surface.

Did you see that?
Manzini Wanderers finally broke their 10-game winless run as they beat Malanti Chiefs 2-1.
Tambuti are destined to the MTN National First Division as their poor form continues.
Young Buffaloes are on a good goal scoring form as they hammered Tinyosi 4-1.
