PIGG’S PEAK – Young Buffaloes continued with their impressive run in the MTN Premier League, as they narrowly beat a stubborn Vovovo side 1-0 here yesterday.

It was a Sandile ‘Saviola’ Gamedze 51st minute strike that took the army side within the championship race, as they are now level with Royal Leopard, who have two games in hand with 39 points. Gamedze connected a corner kick delivered by Lindo Mkhonta from the left flank to tap in for goal in a crowded danger zone. The teams failed to string good passes as the pitch was unplayable due to water which was logged in almost all the parts of the field as it was raining non-stop.

goal-bound

The host team should have opened the score board when Bavukile Shabangu’s goal-bound shot was saved by Nhlanhla Gwebu on the goal line, as the speed of the ball was reduced by the water. The Caleb Ngwenya-led side tried hard to get the opener, but all their efforts were saved by the experienced Gwebu. The former Sihlangu shot Stopper was called to make a save, when the Motshane-based outfit Mcolisi Tsabedze’s long range drive was tipped over the bar for a fruitless corner kick. Both sides tried to create scoring opportunities, but could not convert them into goals due to the unplayable conditions of the field. The result saw Amathole’zinyathi joining the race for the coveted trophy as they now trail log leaders Mbabane Highlanders by four points in 19 games.
