MBABANE – The two wins for the national team, Sihlangu against Somalia in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) preliminary qualifiers have earned each player about E10 000.

Each player will be taking home E6 000 each for the two wins against Somalia that’ saw them reaching the 2023 AFCON Group Stages qualifiers. They are expected to also get about E3 000 each as training allowance and more allowances for the practice matches against Lesotho, where two games were played ahead of the Somalia matches at KaLanga Technical Centre.
A source close to the matter said these are the normal allowances they receive after games but this time around they recorded wins which earned the players more money. The source said players who could get over E10 000 are those who were part of the 22 players who played against Somalia in the two legged games. The source said the players released early will only get the training allowance and for the two practice matches against Lesotho.

expected

Sihlangu spent about 12 days in camp ahead of the Somalia games and each players is expected to take home between E3 000 and E4 000. Sihlangu returned home yesterday from a 2-1 victory in the second leg played at Mbombela Stadium, South Africa on Sunday. They reached the group stages with a 5-1 aggregate after winning the first leg 3-0 away in Tanzania last Wednesday. According to the allowance standing policy that was released in 2020 by the Eswatini Football Association (EFA), a win in an official game carries a token of E3 000 per player, while it is E1 500 for a draw and E1 000 for a loss. Each player is paid an allowance of E250 per day spent in camp. It rained money for the players after their gallant performance in the 2021 COSAFA Cup where they earned a bronze medal after finishing third. The 24 players each took home about E18 500 after playing six matches winning three, one draw and two loses. Sihlangu are expected to be back in action in June or July during the CHAN Qualifiers.
