EZULWINI – It will be some time before Eswatini TV can have enough equipment for proper live broadcast of football matches –this is despite the recent E3 million allocation.

The money was for equipment, among other things, which in some sectors came as a boost for the station to buy cameras for live broadcasts of football matches. However, the E3m is nothing but a drop in the ocean in terms of live broadcasting equipment. One of the required cameras can range from E3m to even more than E10m as it comes with huge and expensive lenses.

Cost a fortune

That is just one type for certain angles around the stadium, while there are bigger cameras they still would need and each can cost about US$250 000, an equivalent of E3 750 000.
It is actually the huge lenses which are mainly expensive before the camera itself and for 36 cameras; Eswatini TV would need hundreds of millions of Emalangeni. A camera, depending on the needs of that particular station, can range from E250 000 upwards but the lenses are the ones demanding a lot, and moreover, there is audio equipment that must come with these cameras and lenses. Our investigation looked at some studio cameras by Sony and calculated one costing E3 750 000 (E3.75m), but this is only the lens, the camera is an additional E287 000, which takes the price to E4 324 000. “Unfortunately, Eswatini TV does not meet the minimum broadcasting standards set by CAF for a station to be able to broadcast such international matches. This is in terms of facilities and equipment.
