DC STING FOR ‘SCORPION’, CHARLES

MANZINI – The Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) Executive CommitteeMembers, Charles Matsebula and Sibusiso ‘Scorpion’ Nxumalo, will be hauled before a Disciplinary Committee (DC).

They will have to answer, after their teams, Pigg’s Peak Black Swallows and Mhlume Peacemakers were overpaid participation fees for the 2021/ 22 MTN National First Division League. Charles Matsebula is the Director of Black Swallows while Nxumalo is the Chairman of Peacemakers. They are both part of the PLE Executive Committee. This is contained in the report that was delivered to the teams by the Special Committee during the special meeting held yesterday at Sigwaca House. The report was adopted by the PLE Board of Governors and the prosecutor is yet to work on the charges.

A source close to the matter confirmed that the duo was due to appear before a DC where they will have to answer on how the payment of the E100 000 instead of E20 000, which is first division participation fee which made both teams were relegated in the 2020/ 21 season and they are alleged to have received participation fees for the elite league. They are both said to still owe about E50 000 each. The Special Committee, chaired by Vovovo FC Director Mehluli Nhlengetfwa, was appointed to investigate the matter. Premier League teams receive E100 000 as participation fee, with National First Division teams getting E20 000. Vovovo and Rangers were immediately paid their money in full while Black Swallows and Peacemakers made arrangements to repay the money back as it had been used.

PLE new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Kenneth Makhanya, who was present during the special meeting, said he was in a hurry to answer questions from journalists after the meeting. PLE Chairman Mark Carmichael could only say the special meeting was a success. PLE Chief Operations Officer (COO) Pat Vilakati confirmed that the matter of the two clubs concerned was referred to the DC. “There are amendments that are yet to be done on the report and we cannot share it with the media currently until it is finalised. The Special Committee reported their findings and they referred that the duo appear before the DC where they will have to answer, he said. Meanwhile, teams applauded the hiring of the CEO as they said things like the overpayment could not have happened if the CEO was hired a long time ago. They said such things could have been prevented.
