SOWETO- “To be recognised by top coaches such as Orlando Pirates mentor Mandla Ncikazi is big to me.”

This was a comment made by Royal Leopard goalkeeper Ncamiso ‘Mbhonyo’ Dlamini after the Pirates coach said the way ‘Mbhonyo’ played, he deserved a contract with any top team in the DStv Premier League. Ncikazi was responding to questions by this reporter on which players stood out for him in the Eswatini team. He then mentioned ‘Mbhonyo’, Sifiso Matse, Junior Magagula and Mzwandile Mabelesa.

“It felt great to be recognised by a top coach like Mandla Ncikazi. It motivates one to do better as a player. I am happy about such recognition, hopefully I will play in top leagues like in South Africa,” said the Leopard goalkeeper. He said overall, they played well as they managed to contain them in the first half. “We did well as a team and it was a learning experience for us,” he said. Meanwhile, Matse also shared similar sentiments.

“It is very encouraging as a player to receive such positive feedback. It makes one work hard. I believe I am consistent, I will play outside the country,” Matse said. He said they could have won the match had they not given up after they conceded the first goal. “The first goal was demoralising. Our plan was to press them hard and prevent them from scoring. We wanted to score first but their first goal sucked the energy out of us,” he said. Meanwhile, Junior said it was humbling to get positive feedback from an opposition team coach. Pirates won 3-0 eliminating the police ensemble out of the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup, which was played at Orlando Stadium on Sunday.
