MANZINI – Beijing Olympics 2021 swimmer Simanga Dlamini is back from injury – he was part of the Eswatini Swimming National Championships yesterday.

The first day of the championships took place at Enjabulweni School and will finish today in the same venue. Dlamini had been injured and out for four months after sustaining a shoulder injury. He announced his return with a great performance as he was able to maintain his records.

Records broken

This was revealed by Eswatini Swimming Association (ESA) President Herman Jele during the event at Enjabulweni. Jele said he was happy about the overall performance of the swimmers as a lot of records have been broken. “We saw a lot of personal and national records being broken since the nationals started,” said Jele. He said he was happy about the performance of swimmers Luca Fraiser, Hayley Hoy and Damien De Sousa as they kept breaking records. “We have a strong swimming group from the under-16s and 13s coming through in both boys and girls,” he said. He said this was due to the good structure they had as an association. He also said that this was due to the continuity strategy. “This is part of our strategic plan which we put in place that each age group should have a formidable set of swimmers to ensure continuity in the sport,” he said. The president said when they came into office they found a gap between the age groups and this was what they identified and were working on. He noted the results were coming up okay.
