MBABANE- Eswatini Olympics Commonwealth Games   Association (EOCGA) has announced that their Vice President, Zakhele Dlamini, will be the chef de mission for the upcoming Birmingham Commonwealth Games.

This was disclosed by EOCGA CEO Maxwell Jele yesterday. The Commonwealth Games will be held in Birmingham, United Kingdom. They will run from July 28 to August 8. “Following the election held recently, EOCGA board has announced that Zakhele Dlamini, who is the vice president, will be the chef de mission. According to EOCGA policy, the vice president is always the one to lead the delegations to the games,” said Jele.

He said initially, the board had announced that the then acting Vice President Nhlanhla Maphanga would lead the delegation. “That was before the elections were held. We wish to inform our stakeholders about the changes since we have a new vice president in place,” he said.

He also highlighted that Dlamini and himself were going to attend the Commonwealth Games Association (CGA) Open Day. The open day will be held from March 28 to 30 in Birmingham. “Basically this Open Day will be a series of meetings and inspection of the 15 different venues which will be used during the games slated for July 28 to August 8,” he said.
He also revealed that the public would have access to buy tickets for the Commonwealth Games. “EOCGA membership and partners are hereby informed that ticket sales for Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games are now open, up until the 18th of March 2022. All persons interested and intending to attend as spectators are advised to access the following link as soon as possible: https://birmingham.kingdomsg.com,” he said.

Team Eswatini will send a tentative squad of 12 athletes, which comprises seven athletes, two boxers, two swimmers and one cyclist. However, Jele said this might change as the Games Commission are still reviewing the criteria for entry. He also highlighted that they would send a team that would compete not to add numbers.
