MBABANE – Former Manzini Wanderers veteran coach Nyanga ‘Crooks’ Hlophe has found a new home at Mbabane Citizens.

Hlophe was shown the exit door at the maroon and white hub giants, a few days after they played the last game of the 2021/22 MTN Premier League first round. In the 15 games he coached at Manzini Wanderers, Hlophe managed five wins, five draws and the same number of losses, accumulating 20 points in the process. He revealed to this publication, a day after being sacked at Wanderers, that he was not yet finished and would, get a team, either in the premier league or national first division before the second round resumed. True to his words, he has resurfaced at MTN National First Division side Mbabane Citizens as their head coach.

Hlophe fills the coaching void that was left by Terisayi Changara, who joined Manzini Wanderers as his assistant a few games before the first round finished. Ezinkulu, as the former premier league side is known in football circles, Chairman Mandla Simelane revealed that they have signed Hlophe as their coach to work with physical trainer Mbaya Katala, who held the reigns after Changara resigned. “Yes it’s true that we have Nyanga Hlophe here as our coach for the reminder of the season and we will see after that about his future,” Simelane said.

He also said they were happy about the capture of a vastly experienced coach, who was good at working with young players. “He started drilling the team today and we have trust in him that he will help us improve on our log standing,” he said. Hlophe could not be drawn for comment as his phone rang unanswered by the time this report was compiled.  Meanwhile, his first assignment will be away game against Ludzedzeludze Killers on Sunday at Manzini Club Sports Ground, kick off time is 3pm.
