MBABANE – Moneni Pirates head coach Gcina Dlamini is excited with the return of top defender Menzi ‘Magawugawu’ Simelane who has fully recovered from his ailment.

The former Mbabane Swallows player only played two games for the ‘Sea Robbers’ in the current season. He was reportedly sick with an undisclosed illness which kept him out for the remainder of the first half of the 2021/22 MTN Premier League season. Some elite league players even organised social games for Simelane celebrating his recovery from the sickness. The games were played at Mpondo Sports Ground in Malkerns, where the player took part in three games. His coach Dlamini said he was happy to learn that his captain was fully fit to return to action and was expecting him yesterday at training. “I am expecting him to join us at training today (yesterday), as he assured me that he would be coming,” Dlamini said.

The former Manzini Sea Birds coach described Simelane as one of the best defenders the country has ever produced. “We missed him a lot. He is a matured player who also leads by example as he takes all the instructions I give the team and execute them well. I am truly lucky to have had the chance to work with such a dedicated player,” he said.
He also said they resumed training last week in preparation for the second round and so far everything was going well. “I will have to add two or three players when the registration window opens, for depth though not that we need players. I am quite happy with my boys,” he said. Dlamini further said he had identified four exciting young players from the regions, and was hopeful to sign two or three of them, as he was well covered when it comes to experience. Simelane could not be drawn for comment as his phone rang unanswered when this report was compiled. Moneni Pirates will begin the second round campaign with a date with the unpredictable Tambankulu Callies.
