MBABANE – The All African Pool Association (AAPA)-bound Eswatini pool national team needs around E100 000 for the championships to be held in Lusaka, Zambia next month.

According to Coach Flag Nxumalo, the team will leave the country next week Wednesday for the games to be hosted from March 4-6, 2022. “Our preparations are going well so far, but I would have been much happier to at least have one international friendly in South Africa, as we performed well in our local friendlies,” Nxumalo said. He said a friendly match against a South African side would have given him a clear picture of how prepared the team was for the games in Zambia.

“The financial challenges we are facing made it difficult for us to play an international friendly game, as you know that we learn a lot from South Africans,” he said. Nxumalo also said the 17-member squad would need close to E100 000 to cater for transport to Zambia, accommodation and players’ allowances while away. “We are appealing to members of the public and companies to help us financially for the international assignment, as the Eswatini Sports and Recreation Council paid E26 000 for the participation fee and they also help us with training fees,” he said. The men’s pool national team beat Manzini Masters pool team 14-11 in a friendly match which was played at Matsapha Police Academy on Sunday, while the ladies team were beaten 13-7 by an Under-15 pick team on the same day.
