MBABANE – It was a matter of so close yet so far for professional golfer James Pennington.

He missed out on the four rounds Bain’s Whisky Cape Town Open that started yesterday by two shots. The qualifiers were played on Tuesday and Pennington did his best but just could not quite hit the mark and did not make it to the tournament sponsored to the tune of about E3.7 million currently ongoing in Cape Town. The Eswatini Royal Insurance Corporation (ESRIC) Brand Ambassador confirmed yesterday that he had been unlucky during the tournament as he was so close.

Misses

“It has been a bunch of near misses. I have been playing some great golf but just not getting on the right side of the qualifiers. I missed by one shot at Kit Kat with a score of -3, 69, lost in a playoff at Fancourt to get in after finishing -2, 70, and missed by two shots here in Cape Town after a level par 72,” he said. Pennington said that will not deter him but he will continue to work hard. Next for him are the Mount Edgecombe qualifiers to be played next Tuesday. Pennington who dominates in the country could have played alongside former champions in the field including defending champion JC Ritchie as well as Jaco Ahlers, Rhys Enoch, Jake Roos, Benjamin Follett-Smith and Anton Karlsson. “I have been playing really nicely but hopefully a little more luck and they will convert into great finishes on tour. Next for me is the Mount Edgecombe for the qualifier for the next challenge tour event on Tuesday next week,” he added.
