MBABANE – “We must do it ourselves.”

It really does not matter for Mbabane Highlanders Managing Director Chief Ally Kgomongwe how second-placed Royal Leopard fare against Young Buffaloes and Manzini Sea Birds.
With his team at the summit of the MTN Premier League standings with a seven-point lead and two games ahead of Leopard, Kgomongwe is ready to welcome any result from today’s security forces derby between the police team and army side Young Buffaloes. If the latter wins, Highlanders are officially first round kings and will be presented the E200 000, they play Leopard in the closing match of the round.

incentive

“We know the first round incentive race can finish on Thursday (today) if Buffaloes can beat Leopard but whatever the case is in this match and against Sea Birds on Sunday, we’ll beat Leopard and extend our lead going to second round,” he declared on Wednesday evening. He said it would come as a major bonus if Buffaloes and Sea Birds got points from Leopard whether in draw or win form because that would cement the first round winners. “What I want is for us to beat Royal Leopard on the field and start the second round with some cushion to protect and even build on. We need to try and win and as many consecutive games in the second then we’ll be fine. What is important is that we don’t rely on anyone but we must do it ourselves,” he said.

aiming

Kgomongwe said while the team was aiming high even in the second round, he wanted to their supporters to wear their replicas which had already been ordered from Thailand and will be available for sale soon. He said COVID-19 had made it hard for him to have the shipment brought here last year but it was finally on its way. Meanwhile, Highlanders have no league action this weekend as they await Leopard who they play last in the first round.
