MANZINI – Congolese international, Mike Dombo’s second half brace transported Denver Sundowns a comfortable 3-1 win over City rivals Moneni Pirates here yesterday.

Dombo netted the first goal – an equaliser in the 52nd minute – when he converted from the spot kick after Pirates defender, Nkhosinathi Shongwe handled the ball inside the box and he was back again in the 80th minute when he finished off a delightful pass from precocious talent Langelihle ‘LD7’ Dlamini. Second half substitute, Serry Issa then out gloss to the scoreline with the third goal three minutes from time, finishing off a cross from Siphamandla Maseko. Pirates had taken the lead via a penalty coolly converted by Xolani Ngwenya after captain Makhosi Mtsetfwa upended Sibonelo Simelane inside the box in the 19th minute in an incident which set the tone for the Manzini derby.

Pirates had started the better side and deservedly took the lead via Ngwenya’s spot kick but Sundowns were the better side in the second half. Ikabort Masocha’s charges found the equaliser in the 52nd minute when Dombo netted the first of his two goals of the day. Sundowns’ Zimbabwean coach Masocha, pulled out Simanga Shongwe for Langelihle who made an immediate impact on the right flank, providing the assists with a good pass for Dombo to net his sixth goal of the campaign. Pirates were reduced to ten men in the 83rd minute when Lwazi ‘Shumi’ Mamba was sent off for a foul on a goal-bound Dombo. Then substitute Issa added salt to the wound with the third goal, finishing off a cross from Siphamandla as ‘Basop IKappa Kappa’ claimed the Manzini City bragging rights and the precious three points which moved them away from the relegation murky waters.
