MBABANE – Bring back the ladies to the ring.

The Eswatini Boxing Association (EBA) President Webster Lukhele publicised his disappointment in the absence of female bouts during the Shisanyama Boxing Tournament held on Saturday at Somhlolo Shisanyama. There were 15 bouts on the day. Lukhele encouraged the boxers to participate in the tournaments which were a build-up to the National Championships slatted for April 16 and 17, 2022. The boxers were reminded about the National Championship eligibility as only boxes with a minimum of three bouts would be allowed to participate.
Lukhele said their target as the EbA was to have 100 boxers comprising of at least 30 per cent ladies.

“We are still negotiating with the army team to organise a tournament with their Mozambican counterparts before the National Championships. We want to elevate the standard and produce the best boxers because right now we don’t have champions. It’s disappointing that we did not have ladies today yet we need them if we want to match the international standards,” Lukhele said. He encouraged more female boxers to return to the ring and create more time for training in order to improve their skills and be in a position to win on international stages.
