MBABANE – Wounded Mbabane Highlanders have cast their net outside the country’s borders in search for a new coach.

The Times Sports Desk has gathered that topping the list of the coaches to take over the coaching reins at the capital city giants after Ernest Mavuso’s fate was to be decided last night is former South Africa’s Free State Stars coach, Luc Eymael, who is currently clubless. An informed source revealed that Highlanders Managing Director Chief Ally Kgomongwe engaged the Belgian coach immediately after the 0-1 loss to Vovovo FC on Sunday at the Prince of Wales Sports Ground. Mavuso missed the clash after being suspended by the club following his no-show at the club’s training field on Saturday.

Mavuso was spotted watching the Moneni Pirates/Mbabane Swallows clash on Saturday at the Mavuso Sports Centre. “The issue of the coach coming two or three times a week only for one hour doesn’t sit down well with Kgomongwe who has made it clear he wants a coach who will train the team twice a day. That’s why he is looking at bringing Luc Eymael to Highlanders even if it’s a short-term deal,” the source at Highlanders Management Committee said.

comment

Efforts to get a comment from Mavuso proved futile as he did not answer his mobile phone and did not respond to messages sent to him. Highlanders MD, Chief Ally Kgomongwe first wondered how this newspaper got wind of their talks with the Nedbank Cup 2018 winning coach, Luc Eymael. “Our talks with Luc Eymael are at an advanced stage, we would like to bring someone of his quality because the team needs someone who can be there on a full-time basis, not part-time. I am ready to bring him on board, we are just tying a few loose ends now,” was all Kgomongwe was prepared to say last night.

unsuccessful

Efforts to reach Eymael were unsuccessful as his mobile phone was switched off for the better part of the day. Stand-in coach, South African born coach, Masilonyane Maloka held the reins on Sunday against Vovovo FC. Highlanders face traditional rivals Mbabane Swallows in the big Mbabane derby on Sunday at the Mavuso Sports Centre. Kickoff is at 3:00pm.
