‘BULL’ FACE OVER E80 000 FINES

MBABANE – Mbabane Highlanders fans’ misbehaviour on Sunday when they lost 0-1 to Vovovo FC may come at a huge cost.

The ‘Bull’ is likely to face the Disciplinary Committee (DC) where they will have to answer for allegedly breaching the 2021/ 22 MTN Premier League rules and regulations during the MTN Premier League game played at Prince of Wales Sports Ground. After the 0-1 loss, their first defeat of the season, Highlanders supporters attacked an alleged Vovovo FC fan. The quick intervention of police and security officers saved the day. The incident happened right in front of match officials and Leticia Vienna was the referee. For that offence, Highlanders are likely to be charged for allegedly contravening article 7.1 (b) of the rules and regulations, which states that assaulting a referee, PLE official,  player, club official, marshal, supporter, fan, spectator or the use of excessive force shall be punished with a fine of not less than E40 000 by the DC.

In addition, the offending club shall be ordered to compensate the victim for any financial loss incurred due to the assault. A Mbabane Highlanders official was also seen throwing substance to the goal post where Vovovo FC goalkeeper Innocent Adja was.
This happened twice in the second half of the match. According to the rules and regulations, it shall be an offence for a club, if its supporters, fans, officials, and players are seen using any substance that is alien to or is foreign to a football field, stadium.
Any club identified by the referee/ match commissioner of the league representative committing this offence shall be summarily fined an amount of E20 000 by the PLE.

The black and white outfit may also face an E25 000 for failure to control their supporters and fans. Match officials are due to submit their match reports this afternoon at the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE). Highlanders Public Relations Officer (PRO) Mandla Madonsela said it was an unfortunate incident.
