MANZINI – Keeping a clean sheet is what impressed Manzini Wanderers Coach Nyanga ‘Crooks’ Hlophe in the 2-0 victory over Denver Sundowns on Saturday in the MTN Premier League.

Hlophe said Sundowns were a hoodoo side against his team and the victory was big to him. Wanderers continued with their good form as they recorded their third victory in a row that saw them occupying fourth spot. “Sundowns have never been easy for us. They are one of the teams that always give us a problem and I’m happy that today we cruised to victory and we did not conceded a goal, something we have to celebrate,” he said. Hlophe, who made three changes at half time, said it was important that he gave almost all the players game time to avoid complacency. “There is still a long way to go and all players had to get game time. I’m happy that the young stars are responding well and we are going to continue to fight until the end,’ he said.

Clean

Meanwhile, Denver Sundowns assistant Coach Artwell Dludlu said they started the game well but failed to keep a clean sheet. He was full of praise for their goalkeeper Lwethu Simelane who saved Manzini Wanderers Captain Mthunzi Motsa’s penalty in the 20th minute. “We were not good at our defence as we conceded goals that could have been avoided. At times our defence was caught ball watching and Wanderers capitalised. On both goals we had over four defenders inside the box but we could not clear the ball,” he said. Dludlu was in charge after the departure of Zimbabwean Coach Big Boy Mawiwi early in the week. Sundowns face Mbabane Swallows in their next encounter.
