MANZINI – Some mourners went into a bit of panic as three gunshots were fired into the air during the funeral of Vovovo FC Director Sipho ‘Tsetla’ Bhembe.

The shots were fired just after the casket had been lowered at 6:35am. When the first two shots went off, some mourners went into panic and about two minutes later, the other shot was fired. Over 500 people, including the football and transport fraternities bade farewell to Bhembe.

shocked

One those who were shocked by the fired shots was Mbabane Alliance Church Reverend Johannes Mazibuko, who was leading the funeral. Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) Executive Member and a close friend to Bhembe, Charles Matsebula, explained that Bhembe was among those who sometimes played the shooting sport. “This is one way they are bidding farewell to their colleague in the shooting sport. These are licensed guns and the sport they were playing with other individuals from the police and army. People must be calm as everything is under control,” he said.

hopeful

Matsebula said as PLE, they were hopeful that Vovovo would be left in good hands and they would meet all the dreams that Bhembe had for the team. Vovovo is now under one Director Mehluli Nhlengetfwa, after the demise of Bhembe. Bhembe succumbed to an undisclosed illness last Thursday. He was a businessman who was in the transport industry where he owned a fleet of kombis and sprinters, trading as ‘Zotha Transport’. Reverend Mazibuko said he was surprised when the gunshots went off and he got worried until it was explained to him. “I was a little bit scared as I did not expect that but now that Matsebula has explained, I am relieved,” he said.
