MBABANE – With time ticking as Mbabane Highlanders’ South Africa-born Managing Director (MD), Ally Kgomongwe winds up his affiliation with the club, the Patrons finally sent a Save Our Souls (SOS) letter to him yesterday.

The club patrons secretary, Musa Masuku, who had earlier said no comment when quizzed by the Times Sports Desk on Sunday on the matter, has finally responded to Kgomongwe’s lawyers, PM Tshabalala Incorporated, and apologised profusely for the delay. “The delay in responding is deeply regretted. This was caused by the fact that the letter was not received by the writer (sic). A copy of the letter was received by me this past Saturday and from one of its recipients Mr. Benson Dlamini and I immediately called your client to confirm receipt of same and promised to respond by Monday, which I do,’ reads part of the letter.

Masuku, in the letter, highlights that as a team they wish to express appreciation to the MD (Kgomongwe) for his support and management of the club and they wish to continue having a relationship with him. “We are in the process of migrating the team from being an entity established in accordance with its constitution to a body in accordance with Mr. Kgomongwe’s wishes.  This is an involved process which requires extensive stakeholder consultation, but we are now near its conclusion,” Masuku wrote in the letter, which was sent to Kgomongwe’s lawyers yesterday morning. Masuku further assured Kgomongwe’s lawyers that the club would be incorporated into a company and Kgomongwe would have unfettered control of the club.

However, when called for comment last night, Kgomongwe said Highlanders didn’t mean anything to him now as he was definitely leaving the club at the end of the month. “It’s goodbye for me. It has taken too long. These people didn’t want to commit; didn’t want to acknowledge the letter in the first place and I can’t even look for sponsors because there is really nothing I can show to validate that I am director at Highlanders. We have been talking about one and the same thing since August. It’s goodbye for me,” Kgomongwe said briefly.

The MD, through his lawyers PM Tshabalala Incorporated, had indicated through the letter written on December 1 that he would be paying Highlanders players’ salaries for the last time at the end of the current month.
