SITEKI – Eswatini Cycling Association (ECA), Sifiso ‘Zwide’ Ndwandwe has promised a big and better Mandla Simelane Road Classic next year.

‘Zwide’, as he is affectionately known in the cycling circles made this promise after the prize presentation held at Siteki Hotel last Saturday.  “We are happy that the race went well. The attendance was impressive. Riders came in numbers despite the wet weather conditions,” Ndwandwe said. He highlighted that he was impressed with the competition among the elite cyclists. “It was really motivating to see the elite cyclists competing fairly. This gave me hope that there is indeed a future.  Clearly Muzi will soon have stiff competition,” he said.

He also said for the sport to grow there was a need to host more races. Meanwhile, Muzi Shabangu is the 150km race’s champion. “We need to have quarterly races so that we keep the cyclists active. We also need to have coaching clinics where we can discuss how we can develop the sport. Next year, expect a bigger and better race. We will unpack in due course how we are going to make it big,” he said. He went on to thank the Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS), paramedics, former ECA President Sihlangu Nhlabatsi, who assisted with timing.
