MBABANE – He was voted the winner of the Sports Personality of the year in the Swazi Boy Social Media Awards.

The awards were presented by a local entertainment stable, Swazi Boy Entertainment and it was the second edition. This is his second big win on the year as he also scooped the MTN League 2020/2021 Player of the Season Award. Celebrations were the order of the day for this player who received the most votes against nine other exceptional sports icons including national sprinter Sibusiso ‘Swazi Bolt’ Matsenjwa who made history by breaking two national 200m records in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games and further reached the semi-finals, making him the first local athlete to achieve that in the Olympic Games.

Dlamini admitted that the race to the title was tightly contested as he competed against reputable footballers including Mbabane Swallows duo of Felix Badenhorst and Sizolwethu Shabalala, Royal Leopard attacking midfielder Junior Magagula, Mbabane Highlanders’ Rio Matsenjwa and international player Justice Figuareido.  Other contestants in this line-up were Swim Lab swimmer Roby Young, who also competed in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games and taekwondo artist Carlota Munave.

“Winning this award means a lot to me. I got most of the votes from sports lovers and people I met in social media. This shows that people love me and I think it all comes down to hard work, self-discipline, respect for myself, for the sport and for other people. If I had a bad reputation maybe of bad habits, I don’t think I would have won. More than anything, I thank God for giving me this talent and keeping me healthy so that I continue to be a role model to the youth who dream of achieving great things in life,” Dlamini said.

When asked if he would be gunning for the Player of the season Award for the second time, Dlamini said his team’s good performance was at the peak of his priorities. “I can say much but mine is simple; as long as Royal Leopard does well, I am happy. The rest is only a bonus,” he said. Taking home the Sports Journalists of the year Award was Eswatini Television’s Video Journalist Phathizwe Msibi.
