ECF HOSTS NATIONAL CHAMPS QUALIFIERS

MBABANE – The Eswatini Chess Federation (ECF) will host the national championship qualifiers next month.

ECF Tournament Director William Siame said with the current year ending, they had embarked on revising their calendar which was ruined by the COVID-19 pandemic. “The next stop for ECF is the National Championship qualifiers scheduled for the weekend of December 18-19, but before that, the inaugural one-day Online National Championship will be the precursor to the big one the following day,” Siame said.

He said 10 people had qualified for the National Championship in both the open and ladies section, he also said five places in each section were up for grabs to complete the final phase of the Round Robin (RR) National Championship to be played next in January. “We have already secured a venue for the qualifiers, which are the Caritas in Manzini, we will use the Swiss format for the six pulsating rounds with time control of 1 hour, 30 seconds,” he clarified. Siame further said interested chess players should part ways with E50 for the subscribed members and E130 for unsubscribed members in the Open section, while subscribed members would pay E30 and E110 unsubscribed members in Ladies section.

ECF recently hosted a successful Patron’s Cup which was played at Salesian High School in Manzini, sponsored by India’s High Commissioner to Eswatini, Her Excellence Radha Venkataraman.  The Patron’s Cup was won by Lunga Malinga.
