MBABANE – The Teqball Eswatini Federation (TEF) held round one of its clubs challenger Cup last Saturday at the SOS School Hall.

TEF Secretary General (SG) Nolwazi Ngwenyama disclosed that six teams participated in the first ever club’s challenger cup. “We had a successful tournament which was watched by a few friends and family members for the players who were playing,” Ngwenyama said. She said she was excited to see the growth of Teqball in the last two years under the tough conditions created by the COVID-19 pandemic. “The level of competitiveness we saw on Saturday was out of this world. It shows that the registered teams have been putting in the hard work in training,” Ngwenyama said.

She also said that as TEF they were looking forward to seeing the level of competitiveness in the sport increase as the rounds continue in the next three weeks. According to the SG, the champion would be crowned at the end of the month as the games are played in rounds of four. The games that were played over the past weekend were the first round fixture. The games were played in a set of three with the winner taking two points and the losing side bagging a point as there was no draw in this game. “This game is totally different from soccer, the allocating of points is not the same as in football,” she said.

Ngwenyana further, said that the games were divided into three categories, the singles, doubles and mixed categories. Former national team players Mfanafuthi ‘Taribo’ Bhembe and Njabuliso Simelane’s team Amateqers are currently on position one on the club standings overall, with 13 points in nine games.
