MBABANE – Denver Sundowns have entrusted Siyabonga Bhembe to take them to the Promised Land in the 2021/ 22 MTN Premier League season.

Bhembe was in charge for the club end of last season as they finished 11th on the 16-team log. Bhembe has signed a contract with Sundowns and he is already drilling the team ahead of the league kick-off on Saturday. Bhembe will be working closely with former goalkeeper in Chicco Mayisa, who will be the goalkeeper coach. Mayisa was among the top foreign goalkeepers in the country between the 2009-13 season. He played for Pigg’s Peak Black Swallows and later joined Mbabane Highlanders.

Campaign

Denver Sundowns will open their campaign against Tinyosi. Sundowns Public Relations Officer (PRO) Thabiso Manyatsi confirmed yesterday that Bhembe was now officially part of the club, but the contract details were between him, Chairman Mark Carmichael and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Elvis Dube. Bhembe is among the top experienced coaches in the country having worked under the late Thabo ‘Koki’ Vilakati when Mbabane Swallows reached the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup group stages.

He also worked for South Africa’s Mbombela United. He was appointed trainer of the national team, Sihlangu and joined Sundowns last season from Mbabane Highlanders. “Bhembe is part of the team and he is working closely with Chicco Mayisa, who has since returned to the country. We will be announcing our new signings before end of the week,” he said.
