Manzini – With just barely a month before the Region 5 games, team Eswatini’s preparations intensify.

The 10 athletes to represent the country in the Region 5 games yesterday showed that they were geared up for the games. The regional games will be held in December 8-10 in Maseru, Lesotho. The under 18 team is made of  Luzuko Shongwe, Livia Manyatsi, Sibusisiwe Mabuza,  Nelsiwe simelane Karien Tsabedze, Bakhona Sikhondze, Lihle Ginindza, Mfundo Nkambule, Thabiso Shongwe and Xoliswa Shongwe.

The likes of Lihle Ginindza, who recently represented the country in the World Junior Champions in Kenya was a marvel to watch as he outpaced some of his competitors in the one-day preparatory event which was held at  Mavuso Sports Centre yesterday. Ginindza clocked 10:92 seconds in the 100 metres and he was closely followed by Thabiso Shongwe who is also part of team Eswatini. Shongwe clocked 11:40 seconds. Completing the top three bracket was Mpendulo Shongwe on 12:52 seconds.

In the ladies category, Team Eswatini’s Sibusisiwe Mabuza was unmatched as she was the fastest on 12:50 seconds. Her strongest contender, Luzulo Shongwe, also a team Eswatini athlete, finished the 100 meters in 13:70 seconds.

Happy

Reached for comment, Lihle Ginindza said he was happy with his performance. “I am getting there, I want to atleast to finish the 100m in 10:05 seconds, and I know it is possible if I continue to train harder. I want to be like Sibusiso ‘Swazi bolt’ Matsenjwa,” Ginindza said. He said he was positive that he was going to do the country proud in the Region 5 games. We will be competing against the best so we have to train harder,” Ginindza said. Meanwhile, Sibusisiwe Mabuza said her goal was to do well in the games. “Firstly, I would like to say that it is an honour for me to be part of this amazing team and represent the country. I have a huge task ahead of me, which is to ensure I hoist the country’s flag in Lesotho,” she said.
