MBABANE – emaSwati will be able to watch the senior women’s national team Sitsebe Samhlekazi live on television, during the 2021 COSAFA Women’s Championship in South Africa.

Sitsebe left the country on Sunday for the ninth edition of the regional women football showpiece which got underway yesterday in Nelson Mandela Bay, South Africa. Information sourced from COSAFA.com revealed that the games will be broadcasted live on SuperSport, with selected games to be shown on the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) channel. It also states that all the games will be streamed live on www.cosafa.tv. The action can also be followed at www.cosafa.com and on COSAFA official Twitter and Facebook pages. Sitsebe captain Nokuthula ‘Internash’Dlamini promised the nation that they would do everything in their power to make the country proud. Her coach former Mbabane Highlanders mentor Dumsani ‘DU’ Makhanya shared the same sentiments as those of Dlamini that they were not going to South Africa to add numbers but to participate.

Squad

On paper South Africa’s women senior national team Banyana Banyana is the team to beat even though they come into the competition with a largely home-based squad as the competition falls outside of the FIFA international window. The same is true for many sides, which get to test the depth of their squads and build international experience for challenges ahead, such as the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers that are scheduled to take place next month. These matches will be vital for coaches to fine-tune their options, with some teams having barely been in action since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic 18 months ago. The local ladies will open their group stage matches with Zambia on Thursday, three days later they play Uganda and on October 5 they finish their games with Namibia. Sitsebe went to the 2021 COSAFA Women’s Championship having not played international friendly matches in preparation of the tournament. They will play Zimbabwe in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers next month.
