MBABANE – Golfer Phumlile Zwane has ended Nosmilo Kgomo’s long dominance in local competitions.

Kgomo has been on fire in the past two months after she was on podium finish for a number of tournaments namely the Mbabane Leg of Lamb, MTN Masters, Ekwetsembeni Charity Golf tournament and ESRIC Monthly Mug. On Saturday, Zwane took home the MTN Masters gong for the month of September in the ladies category after carding 34 points. This is according to amended results sent by Mbabane Golf Club Lady Captain Fisiwe Vilane yesterday. Kgomo scored 33 points. “I have been playing a lot lately and my game has improved. I scored slightly better than Nosmilo,” Zwane said briefly.

Meanwhile, Kgomo said she started well but ran out of steam in the last two holes. “I was playing well in the first nine holes, where I scored 20 points; I was excited as I was coming up okay. I went for the second nine holes, it was a nightmare as I missed birdies in hole one and two and it was the end of it for me,” she said. In the male category, Valentine Maziya emerged as the winner dethroning the previous winner Siboniso Simelane. Maziya carded a score of 42 points after a countback to beat Mbabane Swallows legend. “I think I have been on the greens lately and this has improved my game. Somehow I knew that I would win this competition,” he said. Maziya did not only win the competition but won two more awards, the longest drive and nearest pin 9/18.
