MBABANE - Those who want to own Tambankulu Callies can get it at not less than E1 million.

According to the middleman, Comfort Shongwe, who was sent by Callies to scout for a director about four seasons ago, the team is worth E1 million. Narrating how the team’s sale came about, Comfort said there was news that some members of the old management committee (MC) wanted to repossess the team. They are alleging that they made Sithembiso ‘Ngudze’ Mamba to sign a two-and-half-year contract. A quick call to Mamba to ascertain if he indeed signed any contract with the MC, he denied knowledge of the contract. He insisted that the team belonged to him by virtue that he was approached by Callies officials looking for a director. Sources close to the matter alleged that Mamba paid about E150 000 for the team. “I have invested so much in this team and anyone who wants it will have to approach me. We will sit down and negotiate terms. If I do not get buyers, then I will continue as I have a long-term contract with this team,” Mamba said.

    Details

He did not want to get much into details on how much he spent, although he stipulated that there was a E1 million buy-out-clause. He said he was ready for any offers if there were any. He said the media could verify facts with the middleman, Comfort.
Comfort, the middleman, echoed Mamba’s statements . “All I know is that Mamba is the current director. I was instructed by Callies management, Luke Shongwe to be specific, to look for a director and I found three, directors, and of the three, only Mamba agreed to take over at Callies,” he said. Asked on the new developments that the MC wanted to sell the team to someone else, he said: “I have heard the news but as a middleman, I will tell you what I know. I played a role in scouting for the current director. There was a meeting on Monday, where the MC attended, unfortunately Luke (Shongwe) and Musa Hlatshwako were not present,” he said. Efforts to get comments from Hlatshwako or Luke were futile as both their mobile phones rang unanswered. Callies were promoted to the elite league last season. They finished the 2020/21 season on position 12 with 28 points, three places above the drop zone.
