MBABANE – Giants Mbabane Highlanders young midfielder Lindani ‘Rio’ Matsenjwa’s South African (SA) move aspirations did not succeed.

This is according to his club, Highlanders. Matsenjwa had recently been reported to be in SA undergoing trials with DStv Premiership rookies Sekhukhune United ahead of the neighbours season kick-off and registration deadline last month end. However, at Sekhukhune, the trials did not go well. He was later reported to have tried with another team in a lower division, Platinum Rovers and passed. However, Highlanders Director Chief Ally Kgomongwe has said nobody came for his clearance. “Rio is still our player. We still have his clearance and have not cleared him to any team,” Kgomongwe said when questioned if the midfielder was cleared to any South African team.

Signed

Meanwhile, Kgomongwe signed Matsenjwa from Young Buffaloes when he took over the black and white side two seasons ago. The youngster had spent most of his elite career at Moneni Pirates while also playing for the country’s national junior squads and senior national team, Sihlangu Semnikati. Efforts to get a comment from him proved futile at the time he was sought. The last time he was reached over this issue, Matsenjwa was not ready to comment as yet.
