MBABANE – Three Swim Lab swimmers have intensified their preparations for the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region V Games.

The trio of Siwakhile Dlamini, Damien De Sousa and Hayley Hoy were attached at the High Performance Centre (HPC) in Pretoria, South African where they spent seven days training under South African Coach Linda Dejager. The AUSC Region V Games will be held in Maseru, Lesotho from December 3 – 12, 2021.

Swim Lab coach Welcome Nhlabatsi confirmed that the swimmers were part of the tentative squad that is set to compete in the games. He said this was good training for the swimmers as they will gun for honours during the games. “It is good that the trio went for seven days to train under a professional environment and a highly qualified coach. We believe they really benefited and there is still a long way to go before they can be ready to compete for honours in December,” he said. Nhlabatsi said as a club they always wanted to see their swimmers growing. He said they would continue to work hard with the tentative squad until they leave for the games. Other sporting codes that are set to join swimming in the games include athletics, netball and football among others. The games were initially billed for December last year, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic; they were postponed by a year. The hosting country, Lesotho has not yet unveiled their Local Organising Committee (LOC) after it earlier dissolved the Fusi Notoane-led committee in 2020, while the renovation of selected grounds have not yet commenced.
