MBABANE – There is a sigh of relief at the Manzini Wanderers camp ahead of their last three crucial matches in the MTN Premier League.

After a month of not training due to unpaid salaries, Wanderers players returned to their training base yesterday. Their return to training was fired up by the payment of one month’s salary from the two they are owed. The players confirmed yesterday that they were going to attend the training session and the remaining games despite that they were still not paid one month’s salary.

paid

“We are going to attend training today as we were paid our one month salaries last week, while the management is sorting the issue of our owed salaries,” said one player in condition of anonymity in fear of victimisation. Wanderers Managing Committee (MC) had been running the team from their own pockets in the absence of the team boss, South African businessman Cedric Mathata, who was once reported to be disposed by Mlungisi Ndzinisa, the team’s Public Relations Officer (PRO). The players were given E1 000 in intervals to buy food and other necessities as the MC was trying to solve the issue of salaries. Wanderers went to the game against Tambankulu Callies having trained for only two days and won the game 1-0, courtesy of South African player Sphamandla Dhlamini’s goal. They also went on to beat Milling Hot Spurs with the same margin having not trained for even a day. The players then threatened the MC to boycott the game against Royal Leopard which they eventually honoured and lost 3-1, they told the MC that they were tired of the E1 000 and wanted their full salaries.

connections

Wanderers were able to raise funds to pay the players and according to the PRO, they were assisted by their boss through his connections. It is, however, worth noting that the players were only given a month’s pay and they owed salaries of one month now.
Manzini Wanderers will be hoping to restore their pride and maintain their league position when they host Manzini Sea Birds in an MTN League game to be played at Mayaluka Stadium on Wednesday, kick-off time 12:30pm. They lost their last game over the weekend 1-0 to Tinyosi. Coach Nyanga ‘Crooks’ Hlophe’s phone rung unanswered yesterday afternoon when sought for comment to know if the players eventually pitched for training.
